Preventative Healthcare: We recommend that your pet get a check up at least once a year. As the wise saying goes "prevention is better than cure" and an annual check-up is critical to this as it enables early detection of possible emerging health problems arising in your pet so that they can be treated, hopefully before they cause a serious threat to their health. It also provides an opportunity to get your pets vaccinations and parasite control up to date, check their weight, and take care of any other worries or questions you may have regarding your pet.

Elective and Emergency surgeries: We perform routine elective surgeries from Monday to Friday. We advise the animal be fasted from the night before and brought in on the morning of the surgery between 8.30 and 9.30am. All our surgeries are performed with the patients safety in mind. The patients safety is priority and all anaesthetics are monitored by a veterinary nurse. Patitent stress and discomfort are minimised as witht appropriate pain relief and pre-medication prior to surgery to reduce anxiety. In the case of emergency procedures, we are open 24/7 as and when necessary.

Diagnostics:

  • Blood analysis and laboratory tests- We perform in-house blood analysis for haematology and biochemistry. This is used to provide information on sick patients and prior to anaesthetic procedures to establish at risk patients. We also perform microscopy to analyse skin scrapings, blood smears, aspirates, urine and cell deposit,  FeLV/FIV tests in cats, fungal culture for ringworm, and urinalysis. For any further testing we use external labs.
  • Radiography: We have an digital xray machine which produces rapid high quality images of musculoskeletal and internal structures to aid in diagnosis.
  • Ultrasound: With high quality scanners we can perform pregnancy diagnosis, gather images of soft tissue structures to aid diangosis of internal disease or injuries.
  • Endoscopy: This is a narrow diameter camera which, under anaesthetic, can be passed into the stomach and upper GIT (gastroscopy), colon (colonoscopy), or upper airways to provide us with real time images of these internal structures and also enables biopsy if required.
  • Dental scaling and polishing: At every consult we pay attention to your pets dental hygeine. It is an area that is often overlooked but is an important part of preventative health care. Over 85% of pets will develop periodontal disease at some stage in their life. We offer sevices (scaling, polishing, tooth extraction) and advice on dental care.

Exotics: We at Ark Veterinary Clinic are happy to treat all animals great and small and welcome exotic animal clients.

Equine: We have a large equine client base, and provide excellant service in general and emergency care, reproductive work, and lameness work ups.

Farm animal: We provide excellant standard of veterinary care and advice to farmers in the area ranging from general medical and surgical vet care, herd health management, pregnancy scanning, TB testing, and Johnes VRAMP control programmes.
