Welcome to the East Limerick Red Cross site
The Red Cross in East Limerick In 2013 we have held practical first aid (PFA) courses in Doon, Oola, Caherconliosh, Murroe and Cappamore, we held CFR (cardiac first responder) in Doon, Canerconliosh, Oola during the year.
We have assisted in setting up a new defibrillator group in Oola, bringing the total number of Defibrillator groups in our area to five this includes groups set up in, Doon, Cappamore, Kilteely, Oola, and Caherconlish. The East Limerick branch has delivered PFA training to over 50 transition year students in Doon and Glenstal since September 2013.
While mentioning the youth division I'd like to welcome our new cadet group (14-16) who started up in October and to the Novices (16-18) who are now involved in training of these new cadets, this program is providing the young people of our area with excellent interpersonal/communication/social skills and developing excellent self esteem not to mention life skills of first aid and others. The East Limerick Unit which is the uniformed part of the branch involved in providing first aid at public events and operating the ambulance had another busy year. We have twenty members assigned to the unit who were in attendance at a number of sporting events including the Munster matches in both the Heineken Cup and Rabo league, we provided first aid cover to other events including the Cappamore show, point to points in Bruff and Askeaton and the Limerick marathon to name but a few.
We take great pride in providing first aid cover at public events especially when local, we kicked off on New Year's Day supporting the local GAA (Doon) with their 10k walk which was part of their 125 year celebrations; we also covered the Bilbo 10k run, the Galtee challenge and pitch opening in Knockane. Our unit members have completed a number of training sessions covering all aspects of skills to PHECC (Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council) standards from CFR/CFRA to EMT Level. We are always delighted to encourage and support new members to become involved in any of our activities or joining our ambulance drivers panel, so if you'd like to find out more do contact any of our committee.
