WELCOME to Ennis-Triathlon

Welcome to the ...Ennis Triathlon 2014 site

Ennis Triathlon Club is proud to announce that it is hosting the inaugural “Ennis Triathlon Challenge” and Try a Tri race on Saturday the 26th of July. This will be a sprint distance triathlon event based around Ballyalla Lake and the Auburn Lodge Hotel and The River Lodge Leisure Centre.

The “Ennis Triathlon Challenge” course will be a perfect race for newcomers to the world of triathlon as well as seasoned triathletes who are chasing PB’s on this predominantly flat, fast course.

The Try a Tri will consist of a very managable 200 meter swim followed by a 20km cycle and a 4.5km run.

The sprint distance race starts with a 750 meter swim from the river mouth in the lake, swimming out into the centre of the lake and back to the slipway across from Lake View Stores. The transition area will be located on the grass area behind the slipway. The 20km cycle will proceed from the lake side to Ennis Supply Co. Ltd. on Gort Road, and then out to the Crusheen roundabout and back the same route to Ballyalla. This is a mainly flat open road with very little traffic as a result of the by-pass. We expect that some quick bike times will be put in here. The 4.5km run will proceed from the lake side out the Ruan road to the end of Costello’s estate.  Turn right here up Stonepark hill towards the Gort road.  At the junction, turn right towards Ennis. The last 2km of the run will be downhill which will produce some fast run times. The race finish line will be in the car park on the Ruan side of Ballyalla Lake. This will add to the excitement for the spectators when they see the race finishers make the final dash for the line.

We are confident that this will become a popular event in the Irish Triathlon calendar both with triathletes and spectators alike. This is a fantastic venue.  The course is superb, mainly flat and fast. Ballyalla is also very accessible, just minutes from the M18 motorway.  It will be a family friendly event with children’s entertainment and face painting.  There will also be music and on-site gourmet catering.

Swim

The Ennis Triathlon will start with a swim. The swimmers will enter the water at the peer near the river mouth in Ballyalla Lake. They will swim out into the lake for about 250 meters as far as turnaround marker. From here they will swim back to the slipway across from Lake View Stores in Ballyalla. Once exiting the water they will proceed to transition to retrieve their bikes. The transition area will be on the grass behind the slipway.

Bike

The Ennis Triathlon bike route will start and finish at transition across from Lake View Stores in Ballyalla. The cyclists will leave transition heading towards Ennis Supply ltd. At the Galway road they will turn left and proceed straight out the old Galway road through Barefield Village as far as the Crusheen roundabout, where they will turn around and blast back the same route as fast or slow as their legs can push them to transition. This bike course is Long Empty Fast and Flat need I say any more.

Run

The run route will leave transition across from The Lake View Stores in Ballyalla and proceed past the lake front in the direction of Runa. After about 800 meters the runners will turn right at the cross roads. They will proceed up this road for 350 meters to the turnaround point, where they will turn back to return to the Ruan road cross roads. The runners will go through the cross and proceed up the hill in the direction of the Galway road. The next crossroads will be the Galway road where they will turn right headed in the direction of Ennis. They will turn right at Ennis Supply ltd and proceed down the Runa road to the race finish at the car park on the Ruan side of Ballyalla Lake. Once the runners reach the Ballymaley business park the last two km of the run will be downhill and flat up to the finish.
