ENNIS WINE CLUB

A Brief Introduction

After 16 continuous years of wine tasting and visiting vineyards across Europe the Ennis Wine Club has taken a break. The Ennis Wine Club was formed in 1999 following on from the Wine Development Board Higher Course given by John Mc Donnell, one of Ireland's leading wine experts. The purpose of the club was to share the experience of wine and to increase their knowledge and enjoyment of all things wine.  Club membership is generally between 15 to 20 people.

Events & Meetings

The main club activities run from September through to May every year. Club meetings are generally held on the second Tuesday of every month. A calendar is drawn up at the start of each season to advise members of all events planned for the year. Events are varied, ranging from wine tasting run by Importers/Agents as well as Club members, wines paired by grape variety, country or region.

Ennis Wine Club - Tasting and Social

As well as the monthly club meetings, there are also a number of events held through out the year as part of the club programme. The Wine Club Christmas Dinner is held in December (when  food and wine in local Clare restaurants are sampled). In Mid May the end of season outing takes place. Venues have been varied, ranging from Burren walks and dolphin watching to Parisian restaurants and London Wine Fairs. The main event of the year is the annual wine trip held in early October. The intrepid wine travellers have visited vineyards in locations as varied as Rioja,  Piedmont, Alsace, Germany (Mosel), Burgundy and Bordeaux. Thankfully, for those who don't get to go, wines are brought back for tasting.
