KarPik Global Institute is a private company that provides tutoring and coaching services to learners from senior primary level up to tertiary education. The institute has Mathematics academy that strives to improve learners' math skills by providing tutorship programmes and olympiads for learners and workshops for teachers. The institute also provides research assistance to students registered for Honours, Masters and PhD programmes particularly in the context of South Africa, where the institute is located.
The institute aims to form partnerships with similar companies to expand its services starting in the rural districts of the Eastern Cape in South Africa and expand to other provinces and ultimately in the world. Our services can be accessed both physically and virtually.
KarPik Global Institute is located physically in Mthatha at Chris Hani Park. The institute is founded and run by two active directors, Dr. I. Kariyana and Mr. ST Pika.
Dr. I Kariyana is a versatile and professional educationist with sound strategic management principles. In addition to his education and credentials, his results for Honours Maths and Conduct Outcomes-Based Assessment are pending. He has teaching and sub-examination experience in Geography and Mathematics respectively from Zimbabwe and South Africa. He has research, supervision and community engagement experience. He has also mathematics tutoring experience from Jenn and Poly Maths in the Eastern Cape Province. He has research interest in educational advancement across the education spectrum especially for emerging economies. He is a member of the South African Education Research Association.
He has co-published eight accredited articles since 2012. He has graduated three BEd Honours students since 2016, with two more expected to graduate in May 2019. He has won several school awards, found and coordinates his own school Mathematics Olympiad, has won a best poster conference presentation and has reviewed several journal articles. He is passionate about his work and if given the opportunity, always adds value to institutions and organisations that engage his services.
Mr. Pika is a lecturer at Walter Sisulu University (WSU) with wide-ranging teaching experience since 2001. He has a background in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and lectures Business Information Systems to students registered in the Department of Accounting. In his 18 years of teaching, he has worked in all campuses of WSU (Mthatha, East London, Queenstown, and now working in Butterworth) interacting with different staff members and students. He is currently a PhD student at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in the discipline of Higher Education Teaching and Learning. His research interest is in the use of educational technologies to improve students’ learning experiences and teachers’ teaching and assessment practices, particularly in the context of large classes.
